May 3rd

May 2nd-8th is recognized as Mental Health Week. This year's theme "get real about how to help" is all around empathy.

This year, we are asking students to submit ballots for a chance to win some prizes. They will need to write down one positive strategy they feel helps their mental health. Students and staff are encouraged to come to Student Services and fill out a ballot.

Empathy, or the ability to understand another’s perspective and share their feelings, can increase compassion, and help reduce and resolve conflict.

• Empathy is the ability to understand how someone feels because you can imagine what it is like to be them.

• Empathy involves putting yourself in the other person’s shoes and understanding why they may be feeling what they’re feeling.

• In becoming aware of the root cause of why a person feels the way they do we can better understand and provide relevant support and suggestions.
